How to Obtain the Final Destination Certificate (CDF) for Your Company

How to Obtain the Final Destination Certificate (CDF) for Your Company

What is the Final Destination Certificate (CDF)?

The Final Destination Certificate (CDF) is a document regulated by the National System of Information on Solid Waste Management (SINIR), provided for in Law No. 12,305/2010 (National Solid Waste Policy), which certifies the environmentally appropriate destination of waste generated by productive activities. This certificate ensures that the waste has been treated, recycled, or disposed of in accordance with current environmental regulations.

Applicable Legislation and Standards

The obtaining of the CDF is primarily supported by Law No. 12,305, of 2010, which establishes the National Solid Waste Policy, and by SINIR. Article 33 of the aforementioned law establishes shared responsibility for the product life cycle, encouraging the proper destination of waste.

Step-by-Step to Obtain the Certificate

  1. Identification of Waste: Map the waste generated, quantify the volumes, and classify them according to environmental legislation.
  2. Contracting Environmentally Adequate Final Destination: Select and contract a company duly licensed by environmental authorities for the waste destination, as provided by CETESB and other regulatory bodies.
  3. Requesting the CDF: After the final destination, the service provider must issue the Final Destination Certificate, proving that proper treatment or disposal was performed.
  4. Registration in SINIR: Register the CDF in the National System of Information on Solid Waste Management for control and inspection purposes.

Importance of the Certificate in Waste Management

The CDF is essential to ensure environmental compliance, avoiding environmental penalties provided by Brazilian legislation, such as fines and administrative sanctions. Furthermore, it contributes to transparency in the waste management chain and to socio-environmental responsibility.

Destination of Electronic Waste

For the correct scheduling of collection and disposal of electronic waste, which require special attention due to toxic components, it is recommended to use certified providers who issue the respective CDF. It is important to emphasize that improper disposal causes environmental damage and public health risks.

Security in Disposal of Media and Storage Devices

In addition to environmentally appropriate disposal, secure elimination of storage devices (such as hard drives and other media) is essential to protect sensitive information and comply with legal information security requirements. Proper certification must prove both the physical destruction and the correct environmental destination of such waste.

Final Recommendations

Keeping detailed records of activities related to waste management and CDF acquisition is essential for audits and compliance processes. Additionally, it is advisable to periodically update contracts with service providers, ensuring they comply with current legislation and that the CDF is provided transparently.
