Ecobraz and the Role of NGOs in the New Environmental Governance

Ecobraz and the Role of NGOs in the New Environmental Governance

The Context of the New Environmental Governance in Brazil

Environmental governance in Brazil has been undergoing transformations that reinforce the integrated action of the public, private and organized civil society sectors. This collaborative model aims to comply with Law No. 12.305/2010, which institutes the National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS) and establishes guidelines for the sustainable management of waste.

The role of NGOs in Environmental Governance

Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) act as facilitating agents in environmental management, promoting awareness, enforcement and coordination between different actors. Their participation is in line with the principle of co-responsibility set out in article 3 of the PNRS, where all parties must commit to environmental sustainability.

Ecobraz and its contribution to sustainable management

Ecobraz is an entity that works in the integrated management of electronic waste, collaborating directly with the new environmental governance. Specializing in qualified collection services for obsolete equipment, it offers solutions in accordance with current regulations such as Conama Resolution 401/2008 for proper disposal, and contributes significantly to reverse logistics, as provided for in the PNRS.

To schedule electronic waste collection services in a safe and environmentally correct manner, Ecobraz provides an accessible digital platform for companies and public bodies. In addition, the safe disposal and sanitization of hard drives and digital media service complies with the NBR ISO/IEC 27040 standard, guaranteeing the integrity of the information and data protection during the final disposal of the devices.

Legal Compliance and Supervision

Ecobraz's activities strictly follow the applicable legislation, including Law No. 12.305/2010 (PNRS) and Conama Resolution No. 401/2008, with supervision from state environmental agencies, such as CETESB/SP, which guide and supervise compliance with environmental obligations. NGOs like Ecobraz strengthen environmental governance through transparency in their processes and accountability.

Challenges and prospects for environmental governance in the electrical and electronic waste sector

Despite progress, environmental governance in the electrical and electronic waste segment faces challenges related to raising awareness among generators and adapting logistics chains to comply with mandatory reverse logistics. NGOs play a key role in implementing educational programs and promoting effective public policies.

Therefore, the integrated action of Ecobraz and other civil society organizations is essential to consolidating efficient environmental management, reducing environmental impacts and promoting the circular economy in the sector.
