Ecobraz proposes a global pact with manufacturers to guarantee the neutralization of e-waste, in line with Brazilian legislation and best environmental practices. The agreement seeks to optimize the management, collection of e-waste and safe final disposal of waste, in accordance with the National Solid Waste Policy (Law No. 12.305/2010) and regulations of the National Solid Waste Management Information System (SINIR).
The growing consumption of electronic equipment in Brazil has led to an increase in electronic waste, popularly known as e-waste. This waste has components that require specialized treatment to avoid environmental impacts and risks to public health. According to SINIR, improper management of this waste can result in contamination of the soil, water and air, as well as the loss of recyclable materials such as precious metals.
Ecobraz has launched an initiative that aims to establish a global commitment among manufacturers, importers and distributors of electronics, promoting shared responsibility for the life cycle of electronic products. The pact includes the expansion of electronic waste collection, an increase in qualified recycling capacity and investments in certified processing centers.
The proposal is articulated with the National Solid Waste Policy (Law No. 12.305/2010), which establishes the principles of shared responsibility and reverse logistics for the electronics sector, as well as the resolutions of the National Environment Council (CONAMA) related to solid waste management. SINIR (Decree No. 10.936/2022) provides the basis for control, monitoring and transparency of waste data.
Another critical management step is the sanitization of electronic data present on hard drives and digital media, to ensure information security and compliance with the General Data Protection Law (Law No. 13.709/2018). The pact encourages the implementation of certified and auditable processes for the definitive destruction of information on discarded media.
For areas responsible for ESG (environmental, social and governance), EHS (environmental health and safety) and procurement, the pact proposes strategic alignment with the best practices of the sustainable production chain, reduction of environmental risks and improvement in regulatory compliance, in addition to enhancing the corporate image in the market.
Manufacturers and other interested players can join the pact by registering on the Ecobraz platform, following the technical criteria for integrating coordinated actions for electronic waste collection and environmentally appropriate waste disposal. Alignment with international standards strengthens the commitment to the circular economy in the electronics sector.
